Mielle Chandler
Owner/Operator
One of the very few women excavating contractors, Mielle came to earthworks and the sewerage industry in a ‘roundabout’ way.
Her adult life began in art school, as a sculptor and single mother. Today she brings her eye for shape, love of natural materials, and dedication to leaving the world a better place to her earthwork.
Before coming to earthwork, Mielle taught Ecological Ethics and Social Justice at the university level — exploring earth and water socially, economically, politically, and philosophically.
A mid-life crisis led her away from the Ivory Tower and to the Southern Gulf Islands where an algae bloom caused by the failing septic systems around a beautiful pristine lake spawned Mielle’s interest in sewerage solutions.
She began researching septic systems in order to create an educational kiosk about watershed and lake health. This was followed by the acquisition of an excavator to install underground services on her woodland lot. Excavating jobs soon followed, and then training and apprenticing in the onsite ‘wastewater' industry. One thing led to another, and Full Circle was born.
Today Mielle has access to a full complement of small, medium, and large excavators to bring to the job.
Mielle brings to the job support and mentorship of excavator operators and contractors with decades of experience, high-level registered wastewater practitioners and educators, as well as engineers specializing in sewerage and civil works.
Dedicated to mentoring others, and especially to encouraging more women and non-binary folks to get into construction, she aims to bring on smart and energetic young apprentices.
